A True "WAR EAGLE" Experience
This past week that I have spent here at Auburn University for the Auburn University Journalism Workshop (AUJW) has been one of the most exciting and memorable seven days of my life. Not only have I gained a lot of knowledge in order to build a strong journalism foundation to pursue a television host and personality career, but I have also gained a huge number of friends and I have built unforgettable relationships with some really great people that I otherwise wouldn’t have created if I had not attended this workshop. It was absolutely amazing how quickly my peers and I bonded so quickly, we literally all became best friends overnight.
The workshop gave me the chance to meet some awesome people that are in the field of journalism and over the course of my time here in Auburn I have received so much critical and important advice that will definitely put me one step ahead of those who wish to purse the same things as me as well as any kind of competition for internships or jobs in the future. From the Today show producer to the local news television station, the AUJW has given me the opportunity to get an exclusive look at what journalism really means in the real world and I have intelligently taken full advantage.
Being at an amazing workshop and camp like this, especially at a school like Auburn University, has given me a great example of what a true college town really is. The entire town of Auburn is a really safe and friendly home away from home, and the unity in the Auburn community is definitely an amazing sight to see. On top of seeing a lot of Auburn University’s surrounding areas, we of course also got to have a true “Auburn University Experience”.Although it is the summer time, the campus is teeming with life; you could spot and talk to some of the most talented athletes in college sports, converse with interesting school-spirit-filled teens, or even find something in common with the quiet bookworm. There was something on campus and in Auburn for everybody –great food, easily accessible school resources, hundreds of clubs to get involved in, and of course football – and the AUJW helped us experience a nice piece of all of those things in a short amount of time.
Although I am sad that this week has come to a close, I also filled with happiness because I have had the time of my life. I have so many beautiful memories of this experienced and it will be an adventure that I will never forget. I’m excited to also keep in contact with the friends – which basically includes the entire group here at the workshop – that I have made here. It is really an incredible feeling when I realize that I walked into the workshop already having many friends back home in South Florida and was not expecting to grow to really love anybody at this workshop as a friend, and walking out I now have friends from Atlanta, Alabama, Texas, Tennessee, and even Chicago. I am truly thankful for this opportunity and I am confident that by having more experiences like this, I will not only become a better journalism-oriented individual, I will become an overall better person. This workshop just might make me highly consider going here for college. We'll see...WAAAAAR EAGLE!!!
